SLGS Wins the 3rd Annual Inter-Secondary School Quiz Competition

In pursuit of its mandate to promote legal education and awareness in Sierra Leone, LEGAL LINK, in partnership with the African Young Voices (AYV) Media Empire, successfully organized the 3rd Annual Inter-Secondary School Quiz Competition on the Law and Justice System in Sierra Leone, also known as the ‘Youth and The Law Quiz Competition. The groundbreaking event took place for three consecutive days; Thursday, May 11th, to Saturday, May 13th, 2023, at the AYV Media Empire in Freetown. It brought together brilliant minds from several outstanding senior secondary schools in the region. The primary objective of the competition was to afford pupils in secondary schools to have a deeper understanding and appreciation of the law and justice system of Sierra Leone . It further aimed to incentivize them to become law-abiding citizens and be able to successfully assert their rights in instances of abuse or violation. Additionally, the competition sought to inspire pupils in Secondary schools to consider pursuing a career in law in the future.

Student Leadership Council Presentation – LAT Core Values

The Sierra Leone Grammar School Students Leadership Council (SLGSSLC) today Friday 11th. March, 2022 made a presentation at assembly.
Mr. Musa Serry presented the two pupils in the persons of Gibril Dumbuya of SSS 2 Science 1 and Chidima Taylor of SSS 2 Science 1.
The former gave a brief background on the formation of the Leadership Award Trust (LAT) aims and objectives, mission and vision, highlight the Core Values, composition of the Board and the SLC as well. The latter exclusively examine the five (5) Core Values systematically which include:
1. Integrity
2. Equality
3. Responsible Citizenship
4. Community Development & Service and
5. Democracy & Meritocracy
The Principal Rev. Leonard Ken Davies and Mr. Ivan Carrol and other Teacher Contributors were fully in attendance to grace the presentation. Regentonian Agatha C. Johnson was keen to be part of the delegation to the school but was unavailable absent.
Pupils and Staff of the whole school felt touched about the presentation and applauded the presenters who are classmates and colleagues in the academic struggle.

Huxley Knox-Macaulay was professor and head of the department of haematology, Sultan Qaboos University, Oman. A Sierra Leonean, he was born in colonial Freetown. His father, Hugh Farrell Knox-Macaulay, and mother were both head teachers and he grew up in an atmosphere where education was highly valued, not only for itself, but, because of lack of opportunities in the country at the time, it was absolutely vital for a worthwhile and successful career. Huxley decided at an early age that he would be a doctor and he pursued this aim with great determination. He was educated in Freetown at the Sierra Leone Grammar School and at Fourah Bay College, where he excelled in British science ‘A’ levels, which had just been introduced there.

Dr. Eugene Terry

Dr. Eugene Terry, was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone, and received his secondary education at the Sierra Leone Grammar School 1951-1955. Dr. Terry is an agricultural research and development specialist who has held leadership positions in universities, and regional and international agricultural research and development agencies in Africa, and globally.

SLGS 176th Anniversary & Prize-Giving Ceremony

The Sierra Leone Grammar School celebrated its 176th anniversary in March, 2021 with its annual Speech day and Prize=giving ceremony. The Foundation Day commemorates the founding of the school in March, 1845.
